Common Problems and Solutions for Garment Fabrics

1. Fabric Shrinkage

Shrinkage is one of the most widespread fabric‑related issues for garments. To prevent shrinkage, strictly follow the instructions on the care label for the first wash. If shrinkage has already occurred, gently stretch the garment in suitable‑temperature water to restore its original size as much as possible.

2. Fabric Fading

Dark‑colored fabrics are more prone to color bleeding and whitening. For daily care, avoid direct sunlight exposure and prolonged soaking. Use mild neutral detergent and wash strictly according to care‑label instructions to effectively mitigate fading.

3. Fabric Pilling

Pilling tends to form on fabric surfaces due to repeated friction between garments and other textiles. Keeping fabrics dry, using suitable detergent, washing separately and tumble‑drying at low temperature can reduce friction‑caused pilling.

4. Loose Threads

Loose protruding threads are common on new clothes. Simply cut them off with scissors. Never pull hard, which may draw inner yarns and cause fabric snagging and damage.

5. Garment Wrinkles

Excessively high drying temperature or leaving clothes trapped in the washing machine after the cycle will aggravate wrinkling. Take out garments promptly after washing and hang them for shade‑drying to minimize creases. Heavy wrinkles can be smoothed out with an iron.

6. Washing Methods Matching Different Materials

Care requirements vary greatly among fabrics. For instance, wool garments can only be hand‑washed or dry‑cleaned with special wool detergent. Always refer to care labels first to greatly lower the risk of fabric damage.
