Practical Guide to Garment Production | Common Problems and Improvement Plans for Lace, Lace, Lining and Other Fabrics

 Date:2026-06-30 View:171

Various process defects are likely to occur when fabrics are cut into finished garments. Practical tips to avoid common pitfalls are sorted below by fabric type and craftsmanship:

I. Lace Fabric

Thin soft lace is not recommended for single‑layer bust panels (except thick lace or styles with lining). Single‑layer lace is prone to stretching and deformation under tension and brings higher difficulty for sewing operations.

Lace with eyelash trim should preferably not be used for round necklines, as the trim is highly susceptible to deformation after washing.

Single‑layer lace is unsuitable for mandarin collars on cheongsams (unless lined): thick lace may irritate skin against direct contact, while lightweight soft lace lacks supporting power, resulting in floppy collars and a cheap‑looking finish.

II. Lace Trimming Accessories

Lace trims have relatively poor dye fastness. Some trims bleed color upon first washing; others fade after repeated wear and sun exposure. Even with custom dyeing against color swatches, zero color difference from target fabrics can hardly be achieved.

III. Lining Matching

Two‑way stretch fleece‑feel lining is preferred for winter dresses. Outer fabric and lining should not differ greatly in thickness. A thick‑thin combination will pull against each other after joint sewing and cause uneven surface of finished garments. This problem can be alleviated if outer shell and lining are sewn separately.

IV. Armhole Binding and French Seam Technique

Absence of armhole binding and side‑seam French seams does not equal poor workmanship. Omitting binding on summer tops delivers lighter and more comfortable wear. French seams tend to twist on sheer summer fabrics such as chiffon and mesh; this technique works better for cotton fabrics.

The above practical tips help avoid frequent problems in garment production and effectively improve silhouette and craftsmanship quality of end products.
