Linen is a natural coarse‑fiber material with inherent natural features such as surface splits and uneven thickness. Fine surface fibers will shed naturally during weaving and daily wear. This is normal wear‑and‑tear of natural fiber and not a quality defect.
II. Are slubs on linen fabric signs of defective goods?
Natural linen fibers are short and thick. Slubs are easily formed during spinning and twisting, which are inherent texture features of pure linen. Many well‑known brands deliberately retain slubs to highlight rustic natural texture. The quantity of slubs does not reflect fabric quality. Do not cut off slubs manually, as it may break yarns and damage the fabric.
III. How to handle the heavy wrinkling of linen?
Linen fiber is a bundled porous structure bonded by gum substances. It excels in air permeability, moisture absorption, heat dissipation and durability. However, creases are easily left after fiber bending, similar to marks left on a bent plastic straw. Spraying water and hanging for shade‑drying or ironing at low temperature can effectively smooth wrinkles.
IV. Is shrinkage after washing normal?
Higher linen content brings higher shrinkage possibility. Although manufacturers carry out pre‑shrinking treatment before delivery, slight pseudo‑shrinkage may still occur after washing, which can be restored to original size by ironing and finishing.
V. How to deal with fading, hardening and deformation after washing?
Short and thick linen fibers have weak cohesion and relatively low color fastness. Vigorous rubbing and improper detergent selection will aggravate fading, hardening and deformation. Detergents containing alkali or bleach ingredients will damage fibers and make fabric brittle and whitish. Dry the fabric away from direct sunlight after washing and iron it when half‑dry to relieve stiff hand‑feel.
